1. No Government Affiliation

MACIA (My Aged Care IAT Assistant) is independently operated by Big Dog Software, a sole trader registered in Australia. MACIA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Australian Government, the Department of Health and Aged Care, My Aged Care, or any government assessment body.

2. Not Medical or Clinical Advice

The information provided by MACIA is educational and preparatory only. It is not intended to be, and should not be taken as, medical, clinical, or healthcare advice.

Always consult with qualified healthcare professionals, aged care advocates, and your own medical practitioners for personalised guidance about your health and care needs.

3. Not Legal Advice

Any references within MACIA to legislation (including the Aged Care Act 2024, the Privacy Act 1988, or other laws) are provided for informational purposes only. MACIA does not provide legal advice. If you need legal guidance, please seek independent legal counsel.

4. No Guarantee of Assessment Outcomes

MACIA helps you prepare for your aged care assessment, but cannot guarantee any particular outcome, classification level, or funding amount. Assessment outcomes are determined by the assessor and the IAT algorithm, which is controlled by the Australian Government.

5. IAT Information Accuracy

The guidance and question information in MACIA is based on the IAT User Guide v2.4 (November 2025). The IAT may be updated by the Australian Government at any time without notice to MACIA.

While we aim to keep our information current and accurate, we cannot guarantee that it reflects the latest version of the IAT or that it will remain accurate over time.

6. Impact Indicators

MACIA displays "impact indicators" that suggest whether certain answers may increase or decrease your assessed support level. These indicators are based on our analysis of the IAT User Guide and are indicative only.

The actual scoring logic, weightings, and classification algorithm used by the IAT have not been publicly released by the Australian Government. Impact indicators should be treated as general guidance, not definitive predictions.

7. User Responsibility

You are responsible for:

  • The accuracy of the information you enter into MACIA
  • Seeking appropriate professional advice for your individual circumstances
  • Making your own informed decisions about your aged care assessment
  • Understanding that MACIA is a preparation tool, not a replacement for professional support

We strongly recommend engaging an aged care advocate through the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) for free, independent support during your assessment process.
